JC Raceteknik reveals new Juniorteam line up: Lukas Andersson and Erik Nilsson

JC Raceteknik Juniorteam has signed two new rising rallycross talents for 2022 – Lukas Andersson and Erik Nilsson – who will compete in the RallyX Crosscar Junior category this season.

The JC Raceteknik Juniorteam was founded by JC Raceteknik Team Principal Joel Christoffersson in 2016, aimed at helping promising young drivers in motor sport to further their careers. The team provides technical support and driver coaching at the race track, along with support off track too, with media management, sponsorship collaborations and how drivers present themselves to the outside world.

The Juniorteam previously consisted of Isak Reiersen and Alex Gustafsson, who both graduated to the full JC Raceteknik squad in 2021. Now 14-year-old Andersson and 13-year-old Nilsson will follow in their footsteps.

Andersson started his Crosskart career aged nine-years-old, and has won the Swedish Cup and the Swedish Sprint Cup in the 85cc class. In 2020, Andersson stepped up to Crosscar Junior and finished fifth during his debut RallyX season. Last year, he had an intense battle with JC's Alex Gustafsson and secured the crown by just a single point. Now his goal is to defend that crown.

Nilsson also has a solid CV. He started with Crosskart racing aged just seven-years-old, and made his RallyX Crosscar Junior debut last year, contesting a full season. Following a dramatic finale in Arvika, Nilsson finished fourth in the championship, just missing out on the overall top three by a single point. His goal this year is to again fight for a strong championship result.

The RallyX season gets underway at Höljes, Sweden on May 13-15, the first two of seven rounds with further events being held in Finland, Latvia and a return to Sweden for the finale.

Joel Christoffersson, JC Raceteknik Team Principal:
“When we founded the JC Raceteknik Juniorteam in 2016, the aim was to create a team where young, promising drivers would have the chance to develop - on track, in the paddock and behind the scenes. After several championship medals with the Juniorteam, both Isak [Reiersen] and Alex [Gustafsson] have climbed up to the higher classes, so now we’re in a position to welcome two new juniors to the team.

We have had our eyes on Lukas and Erik for a long time, and both have done very well despite their young age. Lukas was our biggest competitor last year in the battle for the RallyX gold in Crosscar Junior. We will build on what he has achieved so far and invest further so that he can continue to achieve strong results. Erik is doing his second season in RallyX, and despite being very young, he has already impressed. We will work to give him the correct support to be able to fight for good results in the championship. We’re really looking forward to the season.”

Lukas Andersson (SWE), Crosscar Junior:
“It feels really good to drive for JC Raceteknik Juniorteam this year. I’ve only drove with my family team before, so it's a step up to be able to do this with a large and professional team. Joel [Christoffersson] must have seen that I have a smooth driving style and can perform well, it obviously feels very good to be selected for the JC Raceteknik Juniorteam. That Erik is part of the team is also nice. We have been friends since our first year in Crosskarts, so working together as a team will be really good.

My goal is to try and defend the championship title, to continue to develop as a driver and to simply do the best I can. The competition in RallyX is always fierce, especially last year when there was only one point difference for the title, and I’m looking forward to the first round at Holjes.”

Erik Nilsson (SWE), Crosscar Junior:
“I’m really happy to be part of the JC Raceteknik Juniorteam. I see this as a good education, and will learn a lot with them. Being in a team with Lukas is of course fantastic. We've known each other since we were little, and I've always wanted him as a team mate. That Joel has chosen us both is really fun. My big dream is to race in Supercar in the future, so driving with JC that has a whole range of cars in rallycross is a step closer to that.

Crosscar Junior is a tough category with many good drivers and a large field. I think this year may be the toughest season so far,
