JC Raceteknik signs Robin Larsson and Mats Öhman for 2019

Swedish rallycross team JC Raceteknik is targeting titles in both the FIA European Rallycross Championship and RallyX Nordic in 2019 with new signings Robin Larsson and Mats Öhman.

Having already achieved success in both series in recent years, JC Raceteknik has invested heavily in its infrastructure for 2019 with a pair of Audi S1 RX quattro Supercars, built and developed by Mattias Ekstrom’s EKS team.

2015 European Rallycross Champion Robin Larsson will race in both Euro RX and RallyX Nordic, where he will target victory in both championships. Larsson made his rallycross debut as a 17-year-old and has achieved significant success in his career, including claiming the 2015 Euro RX title and racing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship for three years, in which he claimed victory at in Argentina in 2015.

Like Larsson, Mats Öhman is a well-known name in the rallycross world. Having worked with JC Raceteknik for several years, this season he has fully committed to a RallyX Nordic campaign with the team. Not only does Öhman have a bulging rallycross trophy cabinet, he is also a former Swedish and European Champion in snow cross. It was during a snowmobile event in 1998 that Öhman was involved in a serious accident that left him with a spinal cord injury and paralysed from the chest down. Not wanted to be stopped from competing, just three years after the accident Öhman began racing a specially-adapted rallycross car. The JC Raceteknik Audi S1 that Öhman will race this season will be converted for Öhman to drive using bespoke hand controls.

The first Supercar event for AD butik & bilverkstad supported JC Raceteknik in 2019 will be the first round of the RallyX Nordic series at Holjes on May 17.

Joel Christoffersson, Team Principal:
“It will be an exciting year for JC Raceteknik with both new Supercars and two strong drivers. We had some setbacks last year, so now the whole team is really pumped for a strong season. Mats has worked with us for several years, so it will be fun to be able to focus on a good result together with him in RallyX Nordic. Robin is completely new to the team, even though he is a well-known face in the paddock. We look forward workings with him and we will definitely fight for top results in both Euro RX and RallyX Nordic.”

Robin Larsson:
“It will be really fun to race for JC Raceteknik this year. I have had some hard years in the World Championship which made me lose a bit of enthusiasm and joy for rallycross. This year I’m aiming to get the spark back. The goal will be to fight for victory in both Euro RX and RallyX Nordic, I think we have the capacity to do that despite tough opposition.

Having Mats as a team mate and being able to share information with him is a big motivation for me. When you see how he drives on the track with his limitations, it’s incredibly impressive and almost makes the rest of us look bad. He is a very good driver and I think we will be a strong team. On top of that, Joel is an old friend so competing in his team, a little more at home, is of course special. JC Raceteknik is a good team with skilled mechanics and competitive cars.”

Mats Öhman:
“This will be a really top team. The plan is first of all to get into the car and see how it works before setting any targets. At the same time, I’m a racing person, so if everything works as it should, I will aim to fight at the top. We have already started to adapt the car for me, and we are also working on developing it even more. These are good cars so the results will not be down to the equipment but in what is between the steering wheel and the seat.

I’ve worked with Joel and JC Raceteknik for several years and you just have to look at the successes of the team to understand what they are like. They are serious in all areas and have good discipline, which suits me. Driving together with Robin will be fun. He is a great talent, and with such a good car he will be strong this season. Robin has a lot of experience with rallycross in both the European and World Championship. I also have several years of experience so we can really help each other."
